Cabinet Retrofit

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

Bidding our first retrofit from magnetic ballast T12 lamps to electrinic ballast with T8 lamps. My question to you fine folks is this,...... my distributor offers T8 sockets from France in what appears to be 2 configurations: a "Marker" type and a "Bullseye" type. Both types have both the fixed end and the spring end. Which one would be used for a retrofit and will I have to replace the socket raceways?

Thanks

Should not have to replace the raceways; they are made to fit in the same D-hole. As to which configuration, depends on if they were markers or bullseyes to start with...

Be aware the wiring is likely different so you aren't gonna replace just the sockets, but probably rewire the whole thing.

OK, Heres a dumb question that I should know. What is the differnce between marker and bullseye. I am realtively new and have only worked with and replaced kulka lamp holders. The kind that after punching the D hole you just snap them in. I have worked with some tombstone style as well.

BTW thanks for the response Eric. Was just reading a little about Blair Companies in one of the latest mags during a morning "office" visit.

Bullseye has the lamp perpendicular to the raceway cover. Marker is "Tombstone", so the lamp is parallel to the plane of the cover.

I believe the marker socket replaces the tombstone socket in intermediate wireway applications. So depending on what type of sign you are retro fitting, single face over 10' with intermediate wireways will use both the marker and bullseye and double face will use the bullseye only. Both come with the "D" shaped back, so you should be able to use the existing wireway covers.

Thanks Mike,

(2) Signs. Both are under 10' in length. (1) 5' x 3'h and (1) 8' x 4'h. Both are double face.

Appreciate the info and help Mike, take care.

What to use shouldn't be that big of a deal if you look inside the cab you are retro fitting (which you should be!)

Why are you replacing the sockets? The T8HO have RDC bases

    • It depends on what's under the EIFS.   If it's plywood under the foam, then toggles are fine for a lightweight sign.  If masonry, we've come to like the titen HD (simpson strong tie brand) anchors or long wedge anchors.   The Titen HD screws are more user friendly than tapcons IMO.   They come in a variety of sizes, sometimes even at the big home centers.   Just check to see if it's densglass (fiberglass wall panels) under the foam.  Engineeners have told us that densglass isn't "structural" and that things need to be thru-bolted with uni-strut (or equal) sleepers across studs inside the wall.  A few years back, we were called out for an emergency call where someone had installed some large raceway channel letter signs to an EIFS wall that had densglass behind.  They used lag screws.  These held for a while but a heavy snow caused them to fail.   And toggles should work with Densglass but again not for any heavy loads.    In any case don't compress the foam too much.  A sleeve (mentioned above) would be needed for whatever the depth of the foam might be, though probably not needed for something light like an ACM panel.   if it's a really small sign, then appropriate exterior screws are usually OK going into plywood.

    • Hi   Can anyone tell me the right color red and blue translucent vinyl for the "new" Pepsi logo?  We have a local ice cream spot that recently changed from Coke to Pepsi and we have to replace the graphics on a couple of lit cabinets.   The customer sent me the logo in various formats but it didn't specify the correct colors.   I've searched but keep getting CYMK, etc. for the older logo - 2022 or so.   Thanks!
