Is this a violation or a sign that has been violated?

You have to love neon to LED retrofits done by morons that think anyone can install these!!! The douche left a 5" raceway cover off and the raceway was so full of pigeon shit the it was going through the glass housing holes into each letter!!!!! The power supply was completely covered. Needless to say I told the owner I was not going to clean that up.

That's F-ing nasty. I wouldn't clean that crap up either. 15 years back, I was rebuilding an old Theater marquee. Full of pigeons and crap. All of us working on that sign were lucky enough to get Mite's on our arms and other places. It took a frigging year almost, and numerous prescribed medications to get rid of them.

Got a call last week, asking us to remove a bee hive in a bldg. sign. I told them to call a pest control company. They actually were shocked, we wouldn't come out and at least check the infestation out. Since it was attached to a sign. Dealing with a few wasps is one thing. A bee hive is a different story.

That photo is almost a duplicate of a raceway we worked on this year. My tech did clean it out, and we charged extra for that. He also filled a cardboard box with crap and showed it to the sign owner so the owmer could understand what was involved. Needless to say, that bill was paid in three days.

We have a theater marquee that had pigeon problems, and one of the maintenance guys bright idea was to string netting behind the sign and attached to the building to keep the pigeons out. Problem was, it quickly developed a hole and the pigeons got in, but could not get out. Several dead pigeons later... a hawk got a leg tangled in it. He got out, then they finally took the net down.

Good times...

I won't touch that kind of mess. Pigeon crap can cause you to have major respiratory problems.

    • It depends on what's under the EIFS.   If it's plywood under the foam, then toggles are fine for a lightweight sign.  If masonry, we've come to like the titen HD (simpson strong tie brand) anchors or long wedge anchors.   The Titen HD screws are more user friendly than tapcons IMO.   They come in a variety of sizes, sometimes even at the big home centers.   Just check to see if it's densglass (fiberglass wall panels) under the foam.  Engineeners have told us that densglass isn't "structural" and that things need to be thru-bolted with uni-strut (or equal) sleepers across studs inside the wall.  A few years back, we were called out for an emergency call where someone had installed some large raceway channel letter signs to an EIFS wall that had densglass behind.  They used lag screws.  These held for a while but a heavy snow caused them to fail.   And toggles should work with Densglass but again not for any heavy loads.    In any case don't compress the foam too much.  A sleeve (mentioned above) would be needed for whatever the depth of the foam might be, though probably not needed for something light like an ACM panel.   if it's a really small sign, then appropriate exterior screws are usually OK going into plywood.

    • Hi   Can anyone tell me the right color red and blue translucent vinyl for the "new" Pepsi logo?  We have a local ice cream spot that recently changed from Coke to Pepsi and we have to replace the graphics on a couple of lit cabinets.   The customer sent me the logo in various formats but it didn't specify the correct colors.   I've searched but keep getting CYMK, etc. for the older logo - 2022 or so.   Thanks!
