  1. Photos of the new addition yet ? Thoughts on colors, making it sign user friendy ?
  2. I had the entire bed, boom. bucket transferred over to a new truck. There are lots of issues that need to be done at every level. Plus certifications. You need to have a professional do the work, Otherwise you will never get it done or get it to work correctly.
  3. Unless you are in the truck repair business, I would pass on these units Most used dealers give 60 to 90 days
  4. You are showing 2 different trucks here If the boom flips over itself, you can get a straight longer reach. You need to know your sign area and what will work for you These trucks look pretty worn out with just a fast paint job. Any warrantee ? Ford Diesel or V 10 Gas ?

You are showing two different trucks here. The bodies and buckets are different. If the boom flips completely over on it self, you can get a straight arm longer reach. You need to know your sign area and what will work for you. Just looking at your photos, the trucks look pretty worn out with a fast paint job
  6. Are you buying big old utility trucks ? Articulating Scissor booms ? Send a photo

  8. This goes back to a statement I made a while ago. If you order enough products from any manufacturer, they will print any logo on it you want. Who really knows if it is made to any specifications. UL tested or boxed up for a bowl of rice. Is it our job to open up the product and investigate if it really what it is ? We rely on reliable and respected suppliers who should be doing this. Im not a detective. Last week there was a fatal fire near me involving a commercial business and multiple residential units above. The priliminary Investigation is saying the fire started in a neon sign in the storefront window. Was it the transformer ? The wiring ? The electrical hook up ? Was the sign manufactured or installed by a Licensed Sign Co. ? Was the product UL ?? In the end someone will be hauled into court and maybe charged. Someone will be held accountable. If we buy and install UL or other recognized components, ( as far as we know of ) we can sleep better. OR do we knowingly buy other products that may fail and we save a few dollars ? I would rather sleep better.
  9. Do inside work or move to a warmer climate Keep the batteries inside your cab with the heat on. I have a plug in, and wired in inverters inside the cabs and that powers the battery chargers. We just charge and swap them in the warm truck If that doesnt work, you have to use electric drills....the old fashion way
  10. Your 1st mistake was.....You did not get paid in full for the Permit, prior to pulling it. You did not get a 50% deposit on the install. If you did this, you would have money and the install. The other company was then comitted to using you. POs are only worth the paper it was written on. The other sign company got the permit from you for free and got a cheaper install price from someone else. They win, you lose That is why we always get paid in full ffor Permits and get 50% deposit on the install. Everyone is happy happy Who was the other company that screwed you ?
  11. Like I said before....The Sign Companies that kept neon going is like having water in the desert. Neon is a skilled craft, installed and serviced by skilled professionals. And you will get the big dollars for it.
  12. 2014 was my 30 year anniversary in business. People always ask what was the biggest sign job, the hardest, funniest etc. Here is my one of a kind, and the funniest one to me. We were doing a complete pylon sign structure and sign start to finish. Excavation and concrete. The customer called me and said they were ready, the parking lot was laid out and they started the excavation for me. I sent out my crew out the next day to see what was done and complete the excavation. It was July, hot and humid. A few hours later they called me and said that they cant continue because it stinks, really stinks and they were getting sick. OK Come back and I will go see it later. In the meantime, I asked a friend of mine who was in the area to go see whats up. He went there and then called me .I got there and since we were both NYC firemen, we knew what the smell was. Yes....It was a body in a garbage bag under the newly dug hole. We looked at each other and I said, well..Im hungry and tired. Who ever is in there will be there tomorrow and Im going home. Ok with us, we left. I went there early next morning and still the same situation . I called 911 and told them what I had, The cops come and confirm its a body. The older cop knew exactly the deal, the new young cop wanted to see it, He saw it, smelled it and vomitted all over, That was funny by itself. They called their bosses, detectives and Emergency Services. The " crime scene is all taped off and so on. ESU comes and gets in ther protective suits and goes into the hole. They pull up the garbage bag and make a cut in the side. Out pops an arm,and all the fingers. But it looks strange. They continue to open it, and it stinks. Its Not a human...Its a full size monkey. We guess that someones pet monkey died. They saw the excavation and dumped the monkey in the hole and covered it up. Only in Brooklyn.
  13. What a great success story. Im happy to see the family involvment and that the company is ready for the future. Its nice to have the space to grow and do it right.
  14. Yes....McDonalds signs are being built in China. And other national Franchises also. I was watching TV the other night and Ford Motors has a Big Commercial advertising the New Ford China Partnership.
  15. What a disappointment. This is the person and company that I stay clear of. He is a total asshole. Gives all the real sign people a bad rep. He has no interest in the sign industry or for the long run. What does he bring to the table ? Nothing. He is not a businessman, clearly can't design, build or install. Has no clue. Where did he get his training or skills from ? Hes a wannabe.....The only thing this guy is missing is a beer and mullet hair. I have done 2 sign projects for "The Profit" You need to know everythig, do everything and work to their schedule and deliver on their time. Its all about being a professional
  16. If you build your business, Forget all the Blue Books and Bidding companies..Its a waste of time. Build your business on quality and service. Then your reputation will get you more work then you want.
  17. The TV Show.."The PROFIT" will be at a Sign Company this Tuesday Night 10 pm Maybe we can all learn something. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPuAJ4xbRSI
  18. It was the cheap chinese LEDs that started the fire HaHa
  19. And people think we only put stickers on metal ! If was only that easy.
  20. Your truck is 25 years old. Why invest in The big batteries, parts needed, mechanics etc. It will cost you alot more then buying a new generator. Buy a Honda #1000 gas generator, $ 1,000 and an extra gas can. They run for 8 hrs on 1 gal and are so quiet you don't know they are on. Then you could take it with you when need to. I have one Battery operated Bucket truck. I would not buy it again. It is no comparison to the PTO operated trucks which never fail
  21. Neon is alive and thriving here in NYC The Shops here that kept all their neon plants working are loaded with work. Not only sign work but with all the artsy stuff too. We are bending neon 5 days aweek and laughing at all the people who said neon is dead. We are still producing 85 % neon lighted chanell letters. It is very simple to explain why neon is better then LED to the smarter customer. Its like having water in the desert,
  22. There is nothing better then a bucket truck. Buckets are made for the operator to be as comfortable as possible. You can stand, reach and sometimes dance around inside the full enclosure. Bring and keep tools, parts and more with him. And of course drop them also in a protected bucket. I have seen umbrellas and tents around the bucket enclosures to protect the operator from the weather. Ladder Trucks are made for......quick access to the roof, pulling people out of windows and picking apples from trees. They are really hard on the operators knees and feet. Remember that everything you need must be carried up and down the ladder and you have to hold it too. Every truck has its ups and downs...likes and dislikes Bucket trucks offer much more versatility then ladders and cranes.
  23. I totally agree with ALLTEX's Statement. I have been there, done that and passed all the same shit ( road blocks ) on the way. The closed door behind the curtains mentality is now in full view to all. There are no more demands by the Nationals to play by their rules only. We have a choice and we now make our own policies. True facts..........The Nationals are only as good as their subs. The subs control the nationals accounts. PAY the subs on time. Everyone benifits The Nationals have taken notice to this site and some have changed their ways of doing business, The subs are learning how the Nationals operate and we can make our own choices if we want to work with them If everyone of us stopped ordering supplies from our regular supplier for 1 or 2 weeks only. They would shit themselves and come back with a completley new approach and pricing. And watch the other suppliers jump up and want a peice of the action too. The same goes for the Trade shows, Organizations and Magazines KEEP IT UP ERIC Keep pulling at the curtains and exposing the truth. We all have benifited from this site and made progress, friends and partners
  24. Thanks Keith I didn't see it yet These are the fun jobs I like They called us to do this job fast. From the survey. manufacture and Install was less then 3 days
