  1. Silly you. The bright neon is actually used as a beacon for the night divers to find the shoreline. Enjoy the beach time....I'm jealous.
  2. Give 'em hell...........after you remind them that vinyl wasn't circa 1880, neither was the HDU that they probably use in the signs, nor the 4 x 4 posts exactly the same, hope they have enough candles to light the city. Wow, I thought Scottsdale Arizona was bad --- Keep us posted - should be fun. gn
  3. I shamelessly copied this from the neon list as I thought many on here would want to know------- About 2 weeks ago, my business partner and best friend, Garett, was diagnosed with a golf ball-sized brain tumor. Fortunately it appears to be non-malignant and located in a place where it can fairly easily be removed (to the extent any brain surgery is easy!) On Tuesday, the best neurosurgeons in San Diego will remove the tumor in an estimated 3 hour operation. If things go well he'll be in the hospital for about 2-3 days and have a 4-6 week recovery. Let's all pray for a 100% successful outcome. If you want to send him best wishes, you may do so at gc@fluxeon.com. His wife Holly will be keeping up with this account until Garett can again do so. I'll keep the list updated until Garett can come back online. 4. The ils2000, I believe was a electronics product, for dry/damp locations only. Definitely not for use outdoors for border tubes. Want to explain what you are trying to do .....perhaps we can suggest something.
  5. Did you call them on it? If so, what was there response? gn
  6. Color kinetics, for sure. Pricey, but good. gn
  7. I need the name of a qualified vinyl installer for the Derry, NH area. Vinyl needs to be applied on windows, wall, and some hanging banners. Need to pass this info on to a friend that contacted me. Please pm me.
  8. That's funny. Have to learn how to design "light', though. However, in doing a consult job with a bedroom mfg, I have found that sign designers are underpaid - bedroom designers make 6 figure incomes. I don't know that sign designers come close. gn
  9. " A minimum of 2-3 years previous sign experience is preferred... The Candidate should show experience in estimating of raw materials, outsourced materials, labor, equipment, tools, and overall costs associated with sign manufacturing. This individual must have knowledge and expertise in all aspects of fabrication, production, operations and installation of signage. The candidate must have the ability to read blueprints, message schedules, and bid documents." All of that experience in 2-3 years? Damn, no wonder I don't qualify for any of these jobs. Too stupid, I guess. gn
  10. Those fall under the very old listing standard "AG". Not to be confused with UL by any means. gn p.s. "anything goes"
  11. we could tell because one post was how difficult it was for neon signs to be installed and designed. We purchase electrobits thru Tubelight. Have to order though. And I also question the wet location- but possible.
  12. Don't feel bad Paul. In Chicago - there is NO Glantz, NO Tubelight, No Montroy, No Regional, No Transco--oops. Two minor players that service the entire Chicago land area. The big boys try and do their thing by shipping in, and servicing from Indy, or up north. Oh, and we have Sabic - they are currently hiring for outside sales to solicit sign companies - and my background doesn't qualify me to get past the HR DEPT. Go figure. Did I ever say that the sign business is weird? gn
  13. ?? What? Masters was the FIRST one out - years ago - for wet boots and sleeving.
  14. Not necessarily true. There are Fast Signs and Sign a Ramas whose operations would put to shame MANY on this list, and I'm speaking of electric signs.
  15. Most instances the sign inspector can't even spell his job title correctly, let alone know/understand the rules. Which is probably why I can't get a job as a sign inspector - I know how to spell it. Inspectors in Illinois get to the point of writing down a UL #, and walk away. Code compliant, understanding? I don't think so. gn
  16. Congrats Marko!! You were so busy I had hardly time to say 'hi". Loved seeing everyone - but the meet and greet was over far too early. Not nearly enough folks from the SS showed up - but I know there were tons of meetings that some had to attend - and they chose the wrong meet. Great time again... gn
  17. you do each of those signs? Letters showed wood bridge, but a picture of the neon showed marge Carson? Nice looking job, again. You take meter readings to share?
  18. In fact, airport designers, albeit all designers, are so good that they spec out stuff in their drawings that isn't made yet, absolutely won't work, is a hands down "NO" from the mfg of the product, etc. Still up to the installers to know what should NOT be done.
  19. I wasn't making light of the absolute horror of the little boys loss. From wht I've read, the mother, still in the hospital, doesn't even know of the death of her boy. An absolute tragedy. If they find more of the same sign type not fastened to the wall ----- oh my gosh. As strict as airports are over sign design, etc --- cant imagine how this occurred. Sure hope it wasn't a pm, or company, getting the cheapest install price coming back to haunt them. And haunt them it will...
  20. It would be insane not to secure to the wall. Surely the base is no deeper than the sign - which would already make it top heavy and ready to fall. With that many people running around it. And being electric on top of all that? Taking 6 guys to lay it to ground it definitely had some weight. ------- . What a shame, what a lawsuit coming up.
  21. Congrats to Dan and Agilight for taking on the gorilla.
  22. In today's instant world, it probably means the guy that runs to the back and "pulls" that 13.387" serif "k" off the shelf. However, in the old days, that term was used in the dept that did the molded faces, thus "pulling" a face, or letter, by means of the vacuum process using heated acrylic or lexan.
  23. As long as the directions are followed - it works really well. If you just give it to the shop foreman and allow it to be used "the way I do it" - then the success is not that great.
