Yeah, that is a pretty cool site, I've been thinking of something to do myself to get it funded. I actually saw a sign we manufactured on her photos, the flava-flave Ice Cream, you can see it at California Adventure - Disneyland. I guess I will have to make a donation for her trip.

Thanks for sharing

That's awesome, thanks for sharing and plenty of nice signs to see here in Cali. Superior did some sweet neon signs for Disney, Henry gave me a nice little tour of their shop when they had a few in mid/post production. REAL Beefy/solid signs too, poor fabricators....plenty of sore wrists..fingers and shoulders for sure!

Thanks for sharing. I have a deep appreciation of the signs you shared in the video. At some point in time, some business owner is going to also embrace the past and do something about it. I would love to help breath life into one of these signs as a donation. :neon:

      PK HOUSINGS

PK, or Neon P-K Housings are harder and harder to find these days with no major Neon Manufacturer still producing the Metal Shroud portion of a PK Housing.  Westrim??  Nope....Transco?  Nope....Allanson?  Nope...

In fact, it's been nearly impossible to find New complete PK Housings.

The only way in the last couple of years if you had a Neon Project for a client has been to find existing stock from a sign company that has had some just sitting on a old dusty shelf somewhere, or possibly a sign supplier who didn't even know they had any, and with LEDs flooding the market it's doubtful a supplier rep even knows what they are/were, and that dusty case they do have with all those strange metal & glass components was possibly spare parts for some old delivery truck their company use to have from the 90's???

Think of how many have just been straight thrown out in the garbage

Well, not every Neon wall project calls for #200, #300 Housings, the difficult Masters Technologies Boots and Sleeving System.  If you want a Neon attached to on a wall for a clean look & without a raceway, YES...it IS still possible!!!

We've been sitting on these for some time, sorry for the late public announcement

      Hello All,

I am trying to replace an obsolete neon transformer on a bar light and cannot seem to find anyone who can confirm what modern transformer will work as the proper replacement. That's why I came here to the experts!

I've attached a photo of the old indoor gas tube transformer.
I believe it says it's an Actown Model No. FG 3851.
      PRIM 120 Volts 60 Hz 270VA
      SEC 9,000 Volts 30 MA
      Secondary Mid-Point Grounded

I believe Actown was bought by Franceformer years ago.

Can anyone offer any insight on what a solid replacement transformer for a bar neon would be?

Any info. anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks!

      Hi Guys & Gals.

Posting a video sent from one of our members that need help in defining the issue.  Usually seen and requiring longer burn in, but any idea why it would happen over an extended time?

Hopefully some of the Neon folks can chime in

Thought I'd post some pics of a project I recently put up for a group of owners I've been doing some signs for over 15 years, this is the latest project located here in San Diego in Pacific Beach California.

This job was supposed to be up last December, but as you can imagine things don't happen over night like they should in for this project in California and a good reason why business's leave California for other fruitful states in our grand union.

This project was no different and unlike other states.....here,anything built on the beach, you have to go through the California Coastal Commission.  This establishment won't be ready after much delay until almost a year later, and set to open this November possibly December.

This project was originally composed of a third sign, a 18' tall projecting sign which got denied in the permitting process.  Can't get them all in California I guess you can say.

So we're left to be happy with what THEY allow us to have.

Anyhow, this project is two 4' x 20' Electric wall sign cabinets, 1/8" alum walls and 3" deep open face channel letters spaced 1.5" from the cabinet background.  18mm Tri-Phosphor Voltarc Accent 30 border, and Voltarc 15mm Rare Earth Phosphor Sparkling Blue Letter outline lighting.  The owners wanted a halo lighting similar to a previous job so we used Our NC LED's Constant Current Green LED Modules for low light subtle Rear Letter Halo Lighting.

All Lighting Powered by Franceformer's for Neon, and our Union Elecom for the driving the NC Green Constant Current LED's

A big thank you to Joe Walsh of Voltarc for helping us get what was needed for this job, the Neon is Brilliant and of course stands out over the beach night city scape.  This Beach won't be needing a light house for lost fisherman after all now thanks to Voltarc!

There aren't very many Neon signs on this coast that I know of, in fact....I can't think of any so these signs are a real beacon.  They must be because the owners asked me if after installation and first lighting if I could hook up a dimmer......" a wut??!?!"

      Early assembly shots

      Tranny trays

And a shot of our LED Wall Pass Thru System

A solo illumination shot of our Green Constant Current NC LED Modules, using just a single stroke for a light subtle offering.

Wall Pattern Day.  If you're going to do a sign project on a hot summer day you might as well be RIGHT on the beach.  All that project stress went away sitting on the scaffolding listening to the seagulls, the crashing of waves, and smell of sea spray.  I won't lie, I wanted to just bust out a hammock and go to sleep.

Yes, I was working in Van's....I'm in SoCal, so that's all you need to know!

    • 1st of all while its great to use as an excuse. I am not sure as what I would like to consider myself a legitimate business that excuse to not pay does not fly. I cant use that excuse with Grimco, Glantz aluminum suppliers , Ford , the bank.   Hmmm I will just have to put on my big boy pants and get into the line of credit.  Our large signs we are using our money for 60-90 days by the time the project starts through delivery then getting paid.    Besides what if they never get paid. Nope sorry thats not how this works.
    • Paul;   Your statement   " When I asked why would anyone want to work with your company knowing that you do not pay until you are paid ? I also asked how do we know if you are paid or not paid from your customer ? "   You are exactly on point. How the hell do I know for sure when you have been paid? This comes after being so stupid that I would agree to be paid when paid in the first place.   I just received a query from "FacilitySource" to become a contractor. They have just been consumed by CBRE (Coldwell Banker Richard Ellis), a large player in the real estate/ real estate management area. I received a solicitation sheet from them and I won't even insult the intelligence of those on this venue by posting it.   The response section was very definite but the payment portion was somewhere out in the Cosmos. You could  be  paid only if they got paid and then pay you at some mysterious date in the future. They had a list of discounts that they wanted to take under circumstances that were totally unverifiable. You also had to sign away all rights as a contractor while shielding them from everything. Incredible............   But if I were to sign this nonsense, I would be getting exactly what I deserve.   Just for the record, they intimated that they wanted me to provide service to Lowe's, along with some other familiar major accounts in my area.   I politely refused the offer but thought to myself that if a person made me an offer like this to my face I would have dispensed justice with a broken car antenna right on the spot.   Peace out!
    • Here is a " National " Maintenance Co that sent me a request to work for them. I read their contract and it included payment statements stating they will only pay their contractors if they get paid by their customers. Also included was a Hold Harmless Insurance Policy covering everyone  And no legal actions can be taken against the National or the end customer  Plus a lot of other nonsense    When I asked why would anyone want to work with your company knowing that you do not pay until you are paid ? I also asked how do we know if you are paid or not paid from your customer ? Here is the answer sent to me                  Hello,   I will take you out of our system. The only reason we wait until the client pays us ( like every other maintenance company that isn’t upfront with you about it ) is because we are nationwide and all through Canada. If we paid every technician before getting paid we would be out of business. That would be millions we would have to lay out.   Thank you!   Dominique DiPalo Vendor Relations RKB Maintenance Solutions 330 Motor Parkway, Suite 306 Hauppauge, NY 11788 P:  516-612-7821 x 413| F: 516-706-1393 E:  DDiPalo@rkb247.com | W: www.rkb247.com
