Some changes you would like to see....

I've gotten a few PM's in the last couple of months with suggestions to make a few changes on this board.

But to the visitors and other members, I'm curious on what changes you would like to see made to this board to get information that is helpful to you. Be it visual or content.

I'd love to get suggestions by replies or by PM.

The header graphic - like we discussed the other day.

A section on the home page where people can vent their personal life info and get some inputs from people around the world. I like hearing about your wife's special needs kids in school, and I would like to hear more about interesting places people have been on vacation or work - similar to YYZ posts on China neon signs. So not sure how you could do this but creating a WATER COOLER or COFFEE MACHINE area where people just shoot the shit.

I also need to get some good jokes.

AND - a requirement that people MUST post at least 2 times within the first week they are on the board as a new member - or they get booted. The people (yes, including all the of Permlight employees) who logon with a fake alias and then just watch shouldnt be on a board that is trying to foster communication and learning.

And Erik - you have to have a section on TECHNIQUES - share with people how to buy a truck so cheap!!!!

All good points, we use to have a water cooler forum type forum but it became "General Discussion" which was the intention but it became more

so unlabeled or unfiled sign topics as well. Plenty of jokes in the "Comedy Central" forum. Maybe combining Comedy Central with the arcade and sports forum to one and condense the forum a little.

I may tighten up on aliases as time goes on but I also understand the need for anonymity due to working conditions. A lot cannot post because of who they work for and who else is on the forum, we have quite a few of them.

I'm working on the header along with a whole new theme, but I did take the shoutbox off the portal page

As for buying a truck cheap, maybe that should go into the "Tutorial Section"

I think a venting/shoot the shit forum is a way to build community. I know that the community of people that seem to have built relationships on this site keeps me coming back to it. Although I don't post everyday or all that often I come here at least twice a day. I come b/c I know that this place still has activity and people are still talking here.

There are so many forums or message boards out there for the sign business but most of them still have threads on the front page that haven't been commented on since 2006. Thats two years ago and these forums are dead. If you happen to have a specific question you'd like an answer to you'll never get it on a dead forum b/c no one is looking at it anymore.

Not to mention the benefits to the advertisers here. The more interesting the overall site and/or forum is the more people will visit it.....more hits to the site = more hits on ads.

I could go on about the benefits of building "The Sign Syndicate Community" but I'll leave it at this for the moment.

although, I do agree with chubbygumby about the subject of booting people for not posting. I'm against it b/c I personally don't post a whole lot. Not b/c I'm spying or up to no good but b/c I feel I have a lot more to learn here than I have to teach. So most of the time I find myself just sitting back and reading. I usually read something I didn't know and then I start searching the internet for info about the subject and by the time I'm satisfied with my own research I have no time to come back and respond.

I reckon it could be because I have been a member of the site for a while that I have been able to understand what the site has been about and what the particular sections of the forum are for as well as knowing which sections I like to visit (SIGN MODELS!!!!!!!!!!!! hint, hint). So I say pretty much all of what has been suggested so far, with exception to booting low posters off and aliases, is already here. So, for me, I dont see a need to add areas when technically those areas already exist. Mainly because I dont care to look through a long list just to find the few areas I tend to visit. I guess if you dont get rid of the front page that shows all the most recent posts I will be fine.

But define "venting and shoot the shit"? I first started this board out with very low standards and made it like my gaming forums where there was totally open topics and porn images, hot topics that dove into religion and politics. Right now I'm of the opinion of barring religion and politics because of how it can divide a board and hurt networks of polar views.

But if religion and politics is something people want to vent into I guess i can create a special forum where anything goes like old times. With the exception I would create a password or secondary permissions level for all who want to partake in it. Also, these topics would never be seen by guests or members who have no access.

I'm not going to boot non-posters because, well they lurk but don't login. I think you have to have a certain level of thick skin for this board, a lot of people don't and easily shy away just sticking to observation. Only members who login and go from Member Guest to Board Member by having a non-web email address or verify they are in the industry my introducing themselves get to see the FULL board and threads.

Do we still need to have a chat? Anyone interested in setting up specific time/days daily?

Travis, I thought you got tiredof going blind in the models forum? You should still have access to it in the pvt forum. Does that need to be brought out to a dedicated forum as well with people who wish to vent and see view models?
