Light and the Pyschology

Very interesting set of comments about light and human psychology.

Several people are using Axiom Amber and RED LED light bulbs for these applications.

Maybe I'm missing something herein this article and I know you've talked about it in the past. What is the red & blue lights used to treat. And is it any light source like CCFL or only LED's?

Any light source.

Red light makes skin (any animal) produce more collagen...which for women enhances and gets rid of wrinkles. And for animals with skin problems - fixes the problems. Keep in mind if you had a RED incandescent light bulb next to your face you would probably be pretty burned after a few minutes - thus cool running LEDs.

Blue light is actually used for several things: 1) seasonal disorder for East Coasters and Canadian - with limited day light hours and dreary days the blue light helps you readjust your seasonal depression. 2) Blue light is used to help people sleep better that have Alzheimers.

It's really cool stuff, actually, and it does work. The Circadian light cycle is something that has crept into lighting systems, airplane lighting, etc... and there are many numbers of ways that exposure to certain types of light can trigger psychological and physiological responses. If you can trick plants into accelerated cycles,or chickens to age faster and lay more eggs simply by messing with light cycles, then of course humans would have certain reactions also.

I actually made a small light engine with Red, Blue and Amber LEDs that pulsate in a pattern, and my great aunt (just turned 90) straps it to the backs of her hands daily... she says it helps a great deal. NASA owns a lot of patents for "light therapy" but there are plenty of companies that make specialty products. One even makes special light kits for the treatment of race horses. LEDs operating with little or no heat make it possible to do what other lights previously couldn't.

And Sean at EGL will let you know that Bluish Green lights absolutely delights people that are fisherman - fish love the stuff.

    • It depends on what's under the EIFS.   If it's plywood under the foam, then toggles are fine for a lightweight sign.  If masonry, we've come to like the titen HD (simpson strong tie brand) anchors or long wedge anchors.   The Titen HD screws are more user friendly than tapcons IMO.   They come in a variety of sizes, sometimes even at the big home centers.   Just check to see if it's densglass (fiberglass wall panels) under the foam.  Engineeners have told us that densglass isn't "structural" and that things need to be thru-bolted with uni-strut (or equal) sleepers across studs inside the wall.  A few years back, we were called out for an emergency call where someone had installed some large raceway channel letter signs to an EIFS wall that had densglass behind.  They used lag screws.  These held for a while but a heavy snow caused them to fail.   And toggles should work with Densglass but again not for any heavy loads.    In any case don't compress the foam too much.  A sleeve (mentioned above) would be needed for whatever the depth of the foam might be, though probably not needed for something light like an ACM panel.   if it's a really small sign, then appropriate exterior screws are usually OK going into plywood.

    • Hi   Can anyone tell me the right color red and blue translucent vinyl for the "new" Pepsi logo?  We have a local ice cream spot that recently changed from Coke to Pepsi and we have to replace the graphics on a couple of lit cabinets.   The customer sent me the logo in various formats but it didn't specify the correct colors.   I've searched but keep getting CYMK, etc. for the older logo - 2022 or so.   Thanks!
