Hilton Changes Name and Logo

By Barbara E. Hernandez | Sep 23, 2009

Hilton Hotels Corp. is now Hilton Worldwide and comes with a shiny new logo. The reason? Well, it’s not that clear.

President and chief executive Christopher Nassetta told USA Today, “We’re really trying to put a stake in ground. We’re one of the largest hotel companies in the world, and this is a renewed focus on being the pre-eminent hospitality company . . . We thought that the name Hilton Worldwide is more reflective of who we are.”

Perhaps, but it also comes on the heels of Hilton executive Ross Klein, a former Starwood Hotels executive who joined Hilton and was sued by his former company for leaking company secrets, leaving Hilton after spending months on administrative leave. The lawsuit, filed in New York, alleges that Klein and Amar Lalvani, another former Starwood employee who joined Hilton, committed corporate espionage by giving proprietary information on Starwood’s W brand so Hilton could create its new luxury brand, Denizen.

Steve Goldman, president of global development and real estate for Hilton, has also exited stage right with sources stating that he’s on indefinite leave and unlikely to return. While I’m not sure there’s a Klein-Goldman tie, the timing seems very unfortunate if there isn’t one.

I mean, if a company wants to a turn over a new leaf, what better way than ridding itself of dead wood or worse — scandal, and changing its look, name and logo? (Please note the new tag line, “Filling the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality.” HotelChatter says it’s a blatant Christmas marketing tool and they could be right.)

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life. - Winston Churchill

Hilton Changes Name and Logo

Several of their "seaside" resorts that are near Sea Turtles have or are about to use our product - they want to have "the right" image.

I think the quest to "re-image" these companies is to establish a high level of "quality" that is becoming more important as the economy falls.

I think the term "VALUE" means much much much more in these interesting economic times - "VALUE" to some means cheap - I think that is changing as we plow through this economic lull.

The new logo isn't so hot:

I prefer the more recent one with the swoosh through the H:

I agree

...but on the other hand you would have to have skill to make the "old" style sign with the swoosh and know how to install something like that. the new style is basic and less material waste.

They have been repainting all the Hampton inns with the new color scheme.

So each Hilton is allowed to choose thier own light source and vendor, or is thier concern for the turtles? :P

GOOD things happen for a reason......

    • It depends on what's under the EIFS.   If it's plywood under the foam, then toggles are fine for a lightweight sign.  If masonry, we've come to like the titen HD (simpson strong tie brand) anchors or long wedge anchors.   The Titen HD screws are more user friendly than tapcons IMO.   They come in a variety of sizes, sometimes even at the big home centers.   Just check to see if it's densglass (fiberglass wall panels) under the foam.  Engineeners have told us that densglass isn't "structural" and that things need to be thru-bolted with uni-strut (or equal) sleepers across studs inside the wall.  A few years back, we were called out for an emergency call where someone had installed some large raceway channel letter signs to an EIFS wall that had densglass behind.  They used lag screws.  These held for a while but a heavy snow caused them to fail.   And toggles should work with Densglass but again not for any heavy loads.    In any case don't compress the foam too much.  A sleeve (mentioned above) would be needed for whatever the depth of the foam might be, though probably not needed for something light like an ACM panel.   if it's a really small sign, then appropriate exterior screws are usually OK going into plywood.

    • Hi   Can anyone tell me the right color red and blue translucent vinyl for the "new" Pepsi logo?  We have a local ice cream spot that recently changed from Coke to Pepsi and we have to replace the graphics on a couple of lit cabinets.   The customer sent me the logo in various formats but it didn't specify the correct colors.   I've searched but keep getting CYMK, etc. for the older logo - 2022 or so.   Thanks!
