The Sign Factory Hits Homerun at Safeco Field

MMD Newswire.com

Seattle (MMD Newswire) April 28, 2010 -- It's one of the most recognized signs at the M's ballpark: The Hit-it-Here Café. When one of the world's largest companies needed to re-brand the infamous sign, they automatically enlisted the experts at The Sign Factory.

The ING Direct project presented a significant challenge to design, manufacture and deploy an entirely new state-of-the-art sign that emulated the existing Hit-it-Here Café sign in time for opening day at Safeco Field. The Sign Factory team utilized their expertise, experience, complete neon department and industry-leading quality control program to install one of the most aesthetically pleasing and well lit signs at Safeco field.

"In an age of LED's, this is a 100 percent neon sign with an efficiency level far superior to most other lighting options," said Jim Risher, President, The Sign Factory USA. "We are very proud of the fact that ING Direct chose to continue our successful partnership on such an important branding campaign. The new sign provides consistent exposure for fans at the stadium and watching at home. This is a great addition to Safeco field."

The work included significant changes to an existing sign below the Hit-it-Here Café sign, including reconfiguring, refurbishing and repainting to glow neon orange and white, matching ING's branding. "This project could not have been successful without the depth of experience of Tom Bonifant, who brings years of experience working in complicated environments such as Safeco field,' said Ken Naaz, V.P., Design and Development, The Sign Factory USA. "Because of our complete in-house neon department, we were able to work directly with the client during the process to ensure quality control at every phase of the process. As a result, everything was ready for opening day."

The Sign Factory earned the trust of ING Direct after working successfully to rebrand their West Coast National headquarters located in Pioneer Square. ING was extremely satisfied with how the Sign Factory team was able to work with the local historical society to adhere to their stringent guidelines while at the same time installing functional corporate branding.

Was there images of the new sign in the original article Erik? I scratch my head every time I read an article about something visual that fails to include an image of some kind. It's like buying a Playboy and not seeing any skin.

I think including a link to the original source would always be a good idea with these news items.

I know it, don't they know we live in a visual world?

Maybe I can contact someone at tsf and see if they can send some pics

    • It depends on what's under the EIFS.   If it's plywood under the foam, then toggles are fine for a lightweight sign.  If masonry, we've come to like the titen HD (simpson strong tie brand) anchors or long wedge anchors.   The Titen HD screws are more user friendly than tapcons IMO.   They come in a variety of sizes, sometimes even at the big home centers.   Just check to see if it's densglass (fiberglass wall panels) under the foam.  Engineeners have told us that densglass isn't "structural" and that things need to be thru-bolted with uni-strut (or equal) sleepers across studs inside the wall.  A few years back, we were called out for an emergency call where someone had installed some large raceway channel letter signs to an EIFS wall that had densglass behind.  They used lag screws.  These held for a while but a heavy snow caused them to fail.   And toggles should work with Densglass but again not for any heavy loads.    In any case don't compress the foam too much.  A sleeve (mentioned above) would be needed for whatever the depth of the foam might be, though probably not needed for something light like an ACM panel.   if it's a really small sign, then appropriate exterior screws are usually OK going into plywood.

    • Hi   Can anyone tell me the right color red and blue translucent vinyl for the "new" Pepsi logo?  We have a local ice cream spot that recently changed from Coke to Pepsi and we have to replace the graphics on a couple of lit cabinets.   The customer sent me the logo in various formats but it didn't specify the correct colors.   I've searched but keep getting CYMK, etc. for the older logo - 2022 or so.   Thanks!
