Palm Desert Businesses To Remove Neon Signs

You've probably seen the neon signs hanging in the windows of businesses in Palm Desert. But you may not see them any more.

According to the city code, neon signs are prohibited.

But business owners say taking those signs down will not only cut back business but also pose a financial hardship.

"This is how I get my business, this is how I pay my taxes, this is how I pay my utility bill and pay my employees," said David Goldman, a business owner in Palm Desert.

Goldman has until the end of August to take down his signs. He says replacing them will pose a financial hardship.

The city of Palm Desert will be having a meeting Thursday July 8th to discuss this matter further.

I would love to know the reason too. Do you know if all illuminated signs are prohibited or is neon being singled out ?

I go there once a year, I think it's aimed at anything exposed or front kit. Most signs seem to be halo, so it's not just neon per say

      Did you put your tongue on it to see if it still works? LOL    All jokes aside, yes LEDs can burn the place to the ground just not quite as risky as HIGH VOLTAGE NEON.

      We always see a lot of conversation about how "Safe" LEDs are because they are "Low Voltage".    That is not true.   A lot of times it can just take a little bit of moisture getting inside of a module casing.   So NO, LED Module are not SAFE or DUMMY PROOF just because they are low voltage.
