We’re in uncharted territory with this one I’m afraid. What are all of you guys doing about this?  Our governor (Alabama) has issued a state of emergency, schools are closing for 2 weeks (toss spring break in and it’s 3) Everyone has been asked to “social distance” themselves.

I’m not a doctor but I do feel this is more serious than a cold and could end up really bad if we don’t take some precautions.  In what I’ve read and deciphered for myself, cleaning, hand washing and social distancing seem to be the best way to slow this down.

We all know we don’t have the joy of working remotely. Signs aren’t going to install or repair themselves. But we also have a responsibility to our clients and employees.

What have you guys planned out?
I imagine we’ll take it day it day by day, but if this things starts spreading like wildfire, we may not have a choice but to close for a bit. (Italy)

Carlton we are in living in historic times. Things are rapidly changing in the world and here in America. Best to prepare so fear doesn't cause one to panic. So how can one protect yourself and family during these times? Beyond common sense approach of washing ones hands, disinfecting surfaces and staying away from infected individuals you can take the following precautions and integrate these into your life to enhance your immune system.

For Covid-19 Coronavirus or any flu the best protection is to build up your immune system with proper whole organic food and nutrients plus avoiding things that will compromise your immune system such as sugar and junk food. Supplementing with vitamins A, C and D-3 will build your immune system as well as certain mushrooms such as Chaga. Chaga keeps viruses from attaching to human cells. I will post a picture of some immune enhancing products that we have found that work well for us.  One is called Immunity Matrix Mushroom Mix and it has a synergistic mix of several mushrooms plus vitamin C. I put this in my coffee or hot chocolate every morning and it does't really change the flavors. Other things one can do is get some colloidal silver to kill viruses and bacteria in the body. You can use a nebulizer to atomize colloidal silver solution and inhale to kill viruses in you lungs and nasal passages. If you have to be in a crowd of people you can use the nebulizer as soon as you return home to be on the safe side. We have an Omron nebulizer that we got on Ebay for $37.  You can order these products online and most health stores carry these products.

There are several good thing about sign service and installation work regarding staying safe from infections are you can work alone or with helper outside so no big crowds.  We have continued to work during this time and so far we have not had any problems.

Another thing to think about is having enough food, water and supplies so you don't have to make too many trips during this time of medical martial law. Many are reporting that the Corona Virus is a cover story to bring in the new money system and get rid of the central banks and the federal reserve bank or to shift the blame of the economy failure away from being blamed on the central backs/fed reserve. Some are saying arrests of corrupt individuals are taking place and the virus deaths being reported is really how many were arrested in a certain region. If you look at the history of fiat money it has a life cycle of about 70 years so its time for a monetary reset. I think it's odd and statistically impossible for the amount of celebrities who say they are getting the virus. Think about it most of these people don't hang out in the public and they take private jets. They have a contraction rate 1000s of times higher that the general public and that does not compute. That makes me think this media hype is to generate fear and panic to control the people so something else can take place while most are looking at the virus. The magician wants you to look over here so you don't see the trick.

There are a few reports that are explaining what they have uncovered about the truth of what is happening regarding the Corona Virus and New Monetary System. One of the best reports is the X22 Report. X22 Report has 2 updates Monday thru Saturday on youtube and bitchute. He has some recent ones about the Corona Virus and geopolitical events surrounding the virus. Amazing Polly is another good investigative source. I like to listen to X22 report while I'm getting ready in the morning and having my coffee. I'll post the links below to some reports that may relieve some of your fears concerning the virus and if you or anyone has any questions I'll answer in between my projects. Below are the links:

I've been meaning to respond to this thread but it's been raining for almost 2 weeks straight along with this "Pandemic".

Kids are home.

No Traffic in SoCal, if you can believe that.

Kgirl works in the ER, they have tents outside for patients but so far, they haven't had to use them.  Lots of Corona positive tests, it just appears to be a flu and they go home.  We're supposed to evaluate in the next few weeks.

Like all other areas everything here is shut down, Bars, Restaurants, etc.

I'm not that active in Sign Production and Installation any longer, but it's slow AF.

Most other shops I know are stressing, some had sign work for large events that are now cancelled.  I'm sure a lot of projects for retail, food & Bev are on hold because of the shut down.

Business's are defintelty being hurt with this shut down.

How are you shops with employees doing with this?

I work for a full service sign shop, So far other than what has already been mentioned we havnt been affected, there is talk of a temporary shut down but so far its just talk, were hanging in there as long as we can, once the county or the CDC makes the call we will follow suit and close up shop.

We have 2-3+ months backlog of manufacturing. We are working unless the state steps in and says we have to shut down. We are taking precautions against travel, incoming visitors and beefed up facility cleaning by a factor of 4 or more.  Given rules for employees in case of sickness.  We have 65 plus families to feed directly plus our vendors and customers. I hope it gets hot soon and kill this virus.

Guess I should have asked earlier.

Besides existing work, anyone seeing a slow down of upcoming or pending jobs?  I have to figure there is, but you never know

We are not sure.  We could see a lot of work be placed on hold. We could also see a lot of work because they cant get it done elsewhere. We have had sale records for 5 years almost every quarter.  Doubled or staff in the last year or so and where looking to add 60 to 80,000 sq feet. I am SOOOOO glad we did not spend 3-4 mil on a new building last month. Thankfully 1 building was in flood plan, 1 the ceiling was to low and the other the column spacing was to tight.  I am guessing if we come out the other end of this in good shape its sad to say that a better selection of buildings will be for sale.

We're sanitizing like crazy here as well.  I've asked the outside guys to have as little contact with people as possible.  Asking stores to turn on sign circuits whenever possible and not passing work orders for sign-offs.  Of course we're doing an install today and the national PM emails and says to be sure and get a sign off ?.  I guess the 20 pictures of the 3x7 wall cabinet they require won't suffice.  Needless to say after an email explaining our new policy, they were ok with it.

Our phones have slowed down substantially as well.  Of course the nationals are still hammering 2-3x per day as if they are our only clients and we we sit and wait for their calls.  Who can pass up a 2 hour survey an hour and a half away with a NTE of $150? ?

What's amazed me is just how fast everything has come to a screeching halt.

Lets all stay safe and sanitary.  This too shall pass.

So far, we are still working daily though we are a tiny operation compared to some.  I'm having some issues getting materials (i.e. normal steel supplier in Philadelphia closed for at least two weeks) but can find other sources on this side of the state border.   I'm seriously considering not going over into Philly but don't know if I can pull that off.   The suits in the corporations don't care about people.   There is a driver non-cooercion law, see below for an excerpt.

"The Coercion Rule explicitly prohibits motor carriers, shippers, receivers and transportation intermediaries from coercing drivers to operate in violation of certain FMCSA regulations, including the drivers' hours-of-service limits, the commercial driver's license (CDL) regulations, the associated drug and alcohol ..."

I'm hoping we can get something similar about not coercing contractors to finish jobs if we have issues due to Corona.   In Phila. and NJ they have closed restaurants, bars, etc.   Schools are closed for at least another week.  Restaurants can only sell take out.   They even closed the casino's in Atlantic City and that's a big revenue stream.  My daughters college is doing the rest of the semester with online classes.

i have several very large projects that are now on hold, if only because the township offices are closed and we can't start permitting on them.  We just finished a couple of restaurant jobs and they are not going to be able to open.  Both are good customers (one paid already) and I will get paid by the other though I may have to be patient to get the balance due.

We're making sure that everyone washes up regularly.   My hands are dry and raw from all the hand washing.  We are running low on iso alcohol because we are using to wipe things down.   I'v eeven considered buying a still to make my own alcohol - for cleaning only of course.  TBH, I think it will get worse before it gets better but am keeping my hopes up.

P.S. (and I hope this doesn't double post) but I was about to buy a 5x10 router and have put that on hold.  Plus there were other upgrades that I've been considering but am holding tight for now.   Eventually things will go back to normal, or something close, and we can get back on track.

We had several fairly large jobs that we should have received the PO's for by now so I called and asked about it.  Was told they have been put on hold until further notice.  So, thinking would be a good time to catch up on some smaller local jobs and then find out can't get supplies as easily as before.  Still plugging along though

In Washington State the employment security dept has a thing called Shared work - if the employer will continue to pay benefits (we pay medical/dental) and sign up for the Shared work project, the employees can file for unemployment without having to look for work, they just report what hours they did work and EmpSec will pay the balance to make up 40 hours.  They pay about 75% of the employees pay but it's better than nothing.

We've had several larger jobs put on hold and our phones and email has slowed considerably.  The feeling in our shop is that the gov will shut everyone down next week.  We are a small shop and have no issues with "social distancing" (see our facebook page) here at work.  So far no one here has it, but since it's a sneaky virus you just don't know if you have it until you actually get ill.  And yes, I do believe it is an engineered virus, fortunately not Stephen King's SuperFlu level but dangerous none the less.

Stay well and be safe!

As most know by know the Weekly Sign Syndicate Newsletters went out yesterday and already I'm getting a lot of "Automatic Reply" from members who's shops have been on "Mandatory Shut Down" and that they will be replying back from home or remote location.

My Grand State of Whacko California went on official "Lock Down" yesterday, still unclear on that meaning

I do too think this is an engineered virus, meant to bring this country to it's knees.  And for a very specific reason that I won't get into on here because I will lose my S**t.  I am not afraid of the virus.  I am afraid for what's it doing to our lives as free (for now anyway) Americans

I am a self-employed Architectural & Electrical Sign designer that telecommutes from home, coffee shops and libraries. I use a "mobile office" A.K.A a laptop compute to do all of my work.
For now, I am restricting myself to just working from home, as the library and the coffee shops are closed
As long as the internet is running, I can do my work from my end.
However, my clients in California are now under orders form the state government that their brick and mortar manufacturing facilities and offices are closed as of today.
I can work as usual by sending and receiving information via email, but since there is no accounting, it is doubtful that I will be getting payment on open invoices. This really hurts me financially as I had a three month drought in work this past winter. Cie La vie.....Just thankful to be virus-free and safe at home.

So... I took some creative time for some COVID-19 levity by designing this decal suitable for laptop computers. etc.
It has a western "Cowboys and Indians"  theme, with native American warriors replaced with COVID-19 viruses LOL:

Nice, Matt!

My daughter actually thought that since China has a large elderly population and this virus seems to have targeted the elderly... and it started in China... how grim is that thought!  and here's a link to an interesting article about China's aging population:

Our phone is literally not ringing AT ALL other than the PMs checking on the jobs we already had.  We are so far behind because of all of the rain that the guys work daily on the back log of stuff on the days it isn't pouring buckets outside.  I have never seen so much rain in all of my put togethers - Now the coronavirus to add to it.  I am praying that thing moves out of here with as little damage as possible and our lives can get back to "normal".  Hope all of you are well and remain that way!!  We shall survive this!!  How long that takes is left up to us.  We have to all do our part and do as we have been asked so it doesn't continue to spread.  Stay safe everybody!

I'm in CA, we just got shut down, no new business has come in the last couple weeks and the last few days zero emails. We have gone thru our backlog and that is it, we are closing for 1 month as of right now.

So sorry you are having to close for so long.  Hopefully when you are able to open back up things will be booming again!  We have had the best 3 years of our business and then this had to happen.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Well, Maryland just shut down "Non-essential businesses" .  Too gray an area as they aren't specifically calling out the trades they consider non-essential.  Anyone else run into this?

Vickie;

I am an electrician, having transitioned from the sign industry. In California, I believe I am deemed "essential". The problem is that Capital budgets as well as Reactionary budgets have seized shut everywhere making the work disappear.

I work directly for major companies in the oil industry as well as many national food chains and I can tell you the work is stopped for the time being. I did not mention those in the venues listed but I can assure you they are household names. Now, some could go belly up sucking contractors as well as everyday folks with them.

All we can do now is to contain and defeat this Pandemic and reopen our frozen economy. Hopefully the other nations of the world can do the same.

With our great scientists, the resilient American people and most importantly, the mercy of the Good Lord above, we will get through this.

Everybody on this site please stay safe and remain strong.

God Bless all........................

Eric;

To be honest, I am not sure who or what contractors are "Essential" at this time other than those working for companies deemed "Essential".

Since I work for food chains and oil companies and they are deemed "Essential", that apparently sets my status.

I would guess if you work for oil, banking, food or stores such as CVS, Walgreens, Walmart or the like, you would be considered "Essential".  Bottom line, who knows but I know I still perform what small level of work is being given out and I have not been arrested for being on the street in my service truck.

Hopefully this tragic Virus will be dealt with rapidly and we all can get back to normal.

My main concern is for the people of our country and the world. I don't want to see any more devastation or death. This is a time for all of us to come together as one and as Senator Lindsey Graham said "Kick its Ass" referring to Covid-19.

Stay safe & strong...........

    • Wow, you will have to root through "their" protections.
    • A national sign company that I've dealt with for at least twenty-five years wants us to sign their vendor packet again this year.   At first it was a few pages but grew over time.   Last year it was fifteen pages.   Now it's twenty-two pages., plus a three page NDA.   I will have someone look it over and give me their opinion but it's getting ridiculous.    Their paperwork pusher will say that its' all "standard things" but standard for who and in whose favor?   Even if they gave me a ton of work, and it's only been one or two jobs a year recently, I'd be hesitant.   if i didn't know someone that does contacts for a living, I'd have to pay an attorney to go over this packet.    This is a national that has a good rep but it's getting to the point that we all need an attorney on hand at all times to go over paperwork.    Rant over.
    • This is the late April 2026 Update   This month we added in: GE's TX GEN4 12v .9w 6500K LED Module     G2G's WOW II Red 12V .72W     Also Including the GWH IV Snap Shot of the Project which is also included in the April Evaluation PDF Sheet.   The most important thing to take notice i2 the FC / Watt (Foot Candles per Watt).    This is the LED Chip Quality and Efficiency, this is the amount of Light Per Power.  The bigger the number the more efficient that Light Source is.  You might see a Higher Wattage LED Module with a low FC/Watt value, that means it's not too efficient....could even be pushed and in some cases over driven running hot, which can result in shorter life.   I'm going to drop an example to put things in perspective. Let's take two 2LED Modules...the Brighton - II, and the EveryLite Rebel LED Module.   The Brighton II is .8 watts, the EveryLite Rebel is almost a 1 watt Module at .96w   The 362 Foot Candle average EveryLiteRebel is brighter than the B-II Module at 348.5 FC AVG.  However the B-II Module has a 108.91 Foot Candle Per Watt Average.    So if we were to boost the Module Power of the Brighton - II and make it say, a .84w module instead of a .8w module then we can project the Brighton II Module with Foot Candle per Watt of 108.91 to have a Foot Candle Average of 365.93.   The .84w Brighton - II Module would be brighter, under driven, and more efficient than the .96w EveryLite Rebel.   Now the Flip Side...   If we made the .96w EveryLite Module to a .8w Module apples to apples to the Brighton - II Module, we can project the Foot Candle of the .8watt EveryLite Module would be 301.66 instead of the 362 FC Average.  You can see the Handicap here   So Boosting the power of so-so chips will give you more light for the "Wow" factor, but in some case is over driving, there is more heat involved....and like all electronics...they hate and fail with heat.  This is why a lot of LED MFG's recently make a 2 LED almost 1 watt Module and sell for $40 a bag....   Just something to take note of.....          On another Note, I will be taking down the TBA Vendor as the light is too low, and the Principal / Sloan Prism Module as it is dated   April's 2026 GWH IV Sheet GreatWhiteHope IV 042826 WOA.pdf
    • The Brighton LED modules are Top-Tier, High Efficiency LED Modules no matter which Brighton LED Whites or Colors you pick up.  All Brighton LED Modules ONLY use High Efficiency chips....meaning more light per power compared to other like powered LED modules.   First let me say it's important to always use the same color LED behind solid colored faces (No Outline), i.e. Blue LEDs behind Blue Faces, Green Behind Green etc etc.   In another Topic we discussed and displayed why it's better to use Red Behind Red and how much Luminance you will lose on a sign face if you use White LEDs behind Red Faces Here   The 12V & 24V .8W Brighton-II and the Brighton Lightning 12V .72W LED modules both have Ruby Red.   So let's display just how just how efficient these two High-End LED Modules perform compared to other Red LED modules on the market....and no better way than to show you a comparison than to put other like Power LED modules in a side by side comparison and show what the differences are, with comparing Like Power LED Modules this is truly a great Apples to Apples Comparison!     Let's first bring out the two 12V .72Watt LED Modules, the G2G WOW II Red & the Brighton Lightning Ruby Red.   Some other big characteristic differences are the following.   The Brighton LED Modules are Constant Current, and uses a 18 AWG Wiring.  The G2G LED Module is Constant Voltage, and uses a 20 AWG Wiring.   Thicker Wire is alway better for long runs and you won't get as much voltage loss in those runs which can incur lower light output especially for Constant Voltage LED Modules.    Constant Current LED Systems have IC chips or current regulators on board each Module on top of the conventional resistors for protection, this is added protection for each LED Module as well as assuring that the first LED on a long string is equally as bright as the last LED Module on the string.  With Constant Voltage LEDs the first LED on the string will be brighter than the last, also the first LED Module will take a bigger hit than the last LED on a string.  With CV Systems, any small reduction in voltage coming from the LED Power Supply due to long runs or inefficient Power Supplies the LEDs will dim even with the smallest fraction of a volt, this does not happen with CC systems...even and consistent lighting, as well as longer life is the advantage of Constant Current Systems.              The Comparison is composed of channels for each LED Line that measure 12"L x 4.25"W x 3" Depth Returns    The Sign faces are 1/8" 7328 White with one of the Deepest Red Color....3M's 3630 series 33 Red.   Each Channel has three LED modules equally spaced 5" On Center Module to Module.     Before going further I must stress that it is very difficult to take pictures of Red Light Sources and Sign Faces, it is very hard to truly show the stark differences between the Brighton & G2G LED Modules and how truly brighter the Brighton LED's perform in real life.   Using an ExTech Light Meter and measuring the Luminance or light right on the sign face we get the following:   For the Brighton Lightning Ruby Red channel we get a Foot Candle high of 81, and Low of 71, averaging out at 76 Foot Candles.  With three .72 Watt LED modules we get a total of 2.16 Watts, and putting out 35.19 Foot Candles per Watt.  The Foot Candles / Watt is important because it's showing the efficiency of the LED Module when it comes to light output.   For the G2G WOW II Red channel we get a Foot Candle high of 40, and Low of 36, averaging out at 38 Foot Candles.  With three .72 Watt LED modules we also get a total of 2.16 Watts, and putting out 17.59 Foot Candles per Watt.          In our next comparison we will bring out the slightly higher LED Modules.....the 12V .8 Watt Principal / Sloan Qwik Mod 2 Red & the Brighton II Ruby Red available in both 12V & 24V .8watt LED Module.  No matter which version Brighton you use 12V or 24V, the Light Output is the same...at 24Volts it's just half the current of a 12V version.         Nothing is different in this comparison other than switching out the LED modules, the Faces and Channel Sizes are the same.  In this instance we will only use two LED modules form each LED Manufacturer with a spacing of 6" On Center, Module to Module.   For the Brighton II Ruby Red channel we get a Foot Candle high of 56, and Low of 47, averaging out at 51.5 Foot Candles.  With the two .8 Watt LED modules we get a total of 1.6 Watts, and putting out 32.19 Foot Candles per Watt.  Again......The Foot Candles / Watt is important because it's showing the efficiency of the LED Module when it comes to light output.   For the Principal / Sloan Qwik Mod 2 Red channel we get a Foot Candle high of 26, and Low of 23, averaging out at 24.5 Foot Candles.  With two .8 Watt LED modules we also get a total of 1.6 Watts, and putting out 15.31 Foot Candles per Watt.         Again I have to stress that the lighting results are better in person than trying to display in a picture, and the stark difference between the two is truly something to see and pay attention to in real time.   Chip quality and efficiency is everything when it comes to LEDs, and a comparison like this also makes aware of the other differences such as system wire thicknesses for voltage loss....and are you paying for a Constant Current System, or a Constant Voltage System?    Comparisons such as this really shows Custom Sign shops what they are truly paying for, and the quality they are paying for!    You could be overpaying for mediocrity with mediocre lighting results.   If you're looking for something special, and can pay less for it compared to other products that cannot perform the same then....You've found it!   With our Brighton Ruby Red LED Modules, you'll get a High-End, High Efficiency product that will give you Competitive Light, NOT usable Light.  The Brighton Ruby Red will Punch at night over those average conventional Red LEDs.
