  1. We never did any Holiday Inn work however they had a new sign installed about a year ago localy. So far I have seen the sign out more than on. It seems the green LED's or the power supplies are not that good.
  2. I have 1 question. Is the Lawrence Sign from Connecticut? Though I have never used them I have heard from friends that they are a good company.
  3. Years ago I worked as the clerk in the service department of AEG Power Tool. They were probably the BEST tools I ever used. Then they were bought out by Atlas Copco to be combined with Copco's Chicago pneumatic....That's where the Chicago Electric came from. They took a great tool line and downgraded it to where Home Depot tools are now better. I still have AEG tools that are over 30 years old that are the top of my tool box all working fine and will beat out any of the tools on the market today. Good luck with the battery tools you better have a 12 v charger and lots of batteries.
  4. Looks great and only 1 comment on the install.... OSHA will love to see you in a lift without the chain across the entrance... If you were in CT I can bet they would be calling at your door after one of your competitors sent them the photos. Photoshop those 2 pix... But man a very nice sign.
  5. Angie take it from an old guy.... (I've been there and done that. It is how I learned when to run away) Unless this client is one that you just can't do without... in other words he is feeding you every month with work. Let this job go. Your going to come out looking bad no matter what you do with it. The sign is BER (Beyond Economical Repair) You say your company repaired rust some years ago and now there is more places that have rusted through. Who do you think will catch the blame when it rusts to the point that it falls down? How will you feel if someone gets hurt? It will look like crap with the LED's and you will look good for saying that it will once some hack does the job. The client will end up going to you for the replacement.
  6. Been with The Hartford for the last 13 years never an issue. Also if your payroll is through Paychex they have plans that are pay as you go so no audits. I'm seriously considering changing to them next renewal.
  7. No Gary they need that to run for office it is the only qualification
  8. Nancy.... Your paying 4G a month for 11 people on health care!!!! KEEP IT! We had a plan for 2 employees that was $2,750.00 a month, just dropped it due to the cost at renewal it was going up to $4,000.00 a month. I gave them a raise to make up the difference to the old insurance rate. As the owner I no longer have any coverage. I'm looking forward to January when either I'll be able to cover myself or pay a fine for not being able to afford the coverage. Who knows how this Obamacare will shake out. All I know is the elected idiots in DC have been trying to reform health care since Nixon and this is the first one to pass....is it good we will only see once it's been in effect for a few years till then hold on to your hat and watch the wind blow. Dem or Rep doesn't matter they take care of themselves first then we pay for it. One of the first things you need to qualify as a politician is how to tell a convincing lie.
  9. Do you guys actually own your companies and have you for long??? Do you believe that a smoker will NOT smoke in YOUR truck if that is the rule..... The reason the truck stinks is not because smokers are in it it's because as an employee they don't care about YOUR rules. Out of site is out of mind. EVERY smoker I have ever had working for me has broken the no smoking rules to the point that every now and then I have had to fire one. That usually cuts down on the smoking on the job for a short time. My advise don't hire smokers if you can avoid it (whoops illegal to discriminate so hire them) or accept that things are going to smell bad..... Some guys are well worth the smell though.
  10. In the 70's & 80's I ran a contracting company doing mostly what I called "Histerical Restorations" mainly in Mystic, CT. In those days the Historic Commish regulated everything right sown to the collors of the VINYL shutters that were to be put on ALL windows. At one meeting I showed photos of the old round log roof framing that prooved beyond a doubt that the house I was working on had skylights when it was built in the late 1800's. Guess what NO SKYLIGHTS ALLOWED AS THEY ARE NOT HISTORIC. Seems that attitude hasn't changed much in the years since. We have several towns in CT that do not allow even vinyl signs that have to be all hand painted, no internal illumination either. These committee members should be educated before they take their posts. That tirade over I will say our neon work is starting to pick up, not as much as John or Steve but it is growing. We too have issues getting glass and other supplies. Luckily Voltarc is here in CT and EGL now ships direct to us from NJ so it's not devastating.
  11. Don't know Garett myself only what I see/hear of him here. I have always looked at his type of man as a true Renaissance. His self coating of glass is very European not heard of here in the states. May God look over the surgeon's hands today help Garett get well again. Kgirl don't totally deprive the man of the attention of those nurses just keep them away enough to not damage his relationship with his wife.
  12. I remember not too long ago when Glantz would deliver to us here in Southeastern Connecticut. That stopped. We have 1 supply house in CT (Garston also has an outlet in upstate NY) and 2 in Mass (NESS & Heart) that we work with. I know they both go as far as the NY border so maybe with some incentive they can be convinced to drive into the city. The delivery charges are reasonable.... Or just order from Erik he's offering a great deal to NY shops..... HAY HOW ABOUT US GUYS IN CT?
  13. We have done airport work and seen the engineering. Though the airport and construction manager were very restrictive of everything we did I found the engineering lacking. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS belt and suspenders. For the little extra it cost to over kill an install it still beats the heck out of the guilt (never mind liability) of having an innocent hurt or as in this case killed. RIP little one.
  14. We never have been billed for additional insured listing BUT we will never give it to anyone without a commited job. When we get our anual audit the auditor always asks to see the income for all the additional insured jobs just to be sure we aren't hiding any income since the actual rate is based upon not only payroll but total income. Stand up let the "big guys" go if they don't conform to YOUR company policy. Most of them aren't worth the powder to blow them away anyway.
  15. When you can't say what you think and share your experiences with others then your no longer in the USA No one on this form is trying to do harm only help each other out and provide valuable information.
  16. 3' of snow over the weekend. Rain all day today More rain/snow mix forcast for Wed and maybe another 2' of snow again this weekend. Talk about miserable service weather. WELCOME TO CONNECTICUT
  17. I've said this many times before ALL the trade mags are pushing LED's (add $ gets there) They seem to want to kill neon and neon is still the best option for durability, brightness and just plane good value. Yes we produce neon and sell LED's when they are the best option, like in small letters, but we always try to inform our customers of the issues with both. The publications seem to go with whoever is buying the adds this month.
  18. As Ringo Star sang "It can't get much worse" So that said lets all look to the bright side, things always change we just have to stay positive. In the last 3 months we have seen a definite up-tick. The worm turns and the soil gets richer.
  19. Our condolences to those effected by the shooter yesterday.
  20. Established full service Connecticut sign company looking for knowledgeable salesman/designer. Please send resume to bellcsales@aol.com.
  21. Anyone consider making the letters out of plastic? We do a lot of custom carved/formed plastic where metal will not be a good thing. Haven't got time to look at the drawings today but if they are interior letters the plastic option works great.
  22. we used Business in a box to help us with ours but had to add quite a bit to it. Sounds like the sign starter kit one would have been easier
  23. Gerber Omega version 1.56 I know it's old but it works. We do most of our creative work in Corel X3 then have to export as an AI and import into Omega all this exporting and importing causes data loss/curuption. Idealy what I want to do is creat it in Corel and print it on the edge.
